Team California About

History

MAKING THEIR MARK SINCE 2010

The 1st event Team California Baseball participated in was the highly competitive Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic in the Fall of 2010, and then in the Summer of 2011 Team California’s 14U squad won the Bronze Medal in the Inaugural USA Baseball 14U National Team Championships. That same Fall, the 16U Team California squad won the USA Baseball NTIS SoCal Tournament and placed 3 Players on the USA Baseball NTIS SoCal Squad that represented the SoCal Region in Cary, NC.

Team California Baseball is the premier College Development Program in SoCal, Hawaii and Las Vegas. While many Baseball Programs are concerned with being the biggest or the best… Player Development, Eliminating the Fear of Failure and College Exposure is the Team California way and winning is the by-product.

Commitments

COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Team California is not a travel ball team but is known as a College Development Program. What makes Team California a College Development Program?

  • Development: Team California Players are placed in a competitive environment by utilizing game-speed workouts, simulated games and live practice in actual games.
  • Database: Team California has a rapport with college coaches and staff not just in SoCal but throughout the US.
  • Placement: Team California has a track record of placing players (200+) since the first Team California graduating class of 2012 not just in D-1, but in D-2, D-3, NAIA and JuCo.
When you have a group of players who are like-minded, obviously, the winning attitude naturally comes out and Team California wins more often than not. The significant difference is that the setting is in front of hundreds of college coaches and MLB Scouts at the USA Baseball NTC, Perfect Game World Series, Arizona Fall Classic and College Team Camps.

Testimonials

Former Team California Player and Parent Testimonials

Team California was a key factor in preparing me for College Baseball, which would eventually lead me to an opportunity in playing Professional Baseball. Coach Mitch Spiers showed his belief in me as a player from the first practice I showed up wearing a Team Cal uniform. Coach Spiers will push you to your limits getting the most out of you as a baseball player and a man, as I was taught Life Lessons along the way. Team California’s atmosphere replicated the College Baseball setting, so when I stepped on Campus I was ready to compete from Day 1. Team California’s philosophies are taught not only at the College Level, but the Professional Level as well. It was truly a blessing to play for Coach Mitch as I contribute most of my success to rise from learning how to compete at the highest level at a young age, as I played for Team California.

PLAYER: '13 TEAM CAL GRAD CLASS

Living in Hawaii makes it extremely difficult to get exposed to College Baseball Coaches and Recruiters. Having my son play with Mitch Spiers and Team California was one of the best decisions I made. My son played in only two tournaments with Mitch during the Summer prior to his Senior Year of High School. I was very impressed College and Pro Scouts that were in attendance. Mitch promotes players through his vast network of College Coaches from D1 to Junior Colleges. His program works! The exposure my son received by playing for Mitch Spiers and Team California was second to none. My son earned a baseball scholarship, and now is attending the University of Oregon. Go Ducks!

HAWAII PARENT: '17 TEAM CAL GRAD CLASS

Team California made me the person I am today, and showed me the true meaning of success and leadership. I realized that High School ball wasn’t necessary for me to receive a Scholarship. Mitch Spiers as my Coach was always there to show me where I could improve, and achieve the next level of success. Team California pushed me to be the best I could be. The fundamentals that were installed in me have allowed for success and cooperation in all endeavors, and for that I am thankful. Team California’s commitment, unwavering dedication to the sport and more importantly, to player development helped me obtain a Scholarship to New Mexico State University at the D1 Level. Mitch Spiers and Team California had me play in the right Tournaments, and to be seen by the right College Recruiters. I am Thankful for all of this!

PLAYER: '15 TEAM CAL GRAD CLASS

Our son began playing for Team California in 2011-2012 at which time he was a good player, not an Elite Player. Mitch Spiers and the Team California Staff taught our son what it meant to (A) Play the Game the right way, (B) How to COMPETE at ant level, and (C) Prepared him to play at the Next Level with greater expectations. The ability to play in front of numerous colleges through Elite and National Events that are well attended is a testament to the Team California Program Strength and Reputation. Mitch’s commitment is not only to teaching the game of baseball, but more importantly the value of academic success and how to conduct yourself on and off the field was invaluable and afforded our son with multiple options to play at the Next Level. Mitch’s style of coaching isn’t for everyone, and his expectations of the Players is High! Hence the success rate at not only the next level but beyond that. These expectations are there so players can succeed in College and beyond. I can guarantee you it doesn’t get any easier from here. We are truly grateful to Mitch Spiers and Team California for not only the development of our son, but all of the families we have made lifetime friendships with, and the wonderful adventures of playing for Team California!

PARENT: '17 TEAM CAL GRAD CLASS

Team Cal prepared me not only physically, but mentally as well. Head Coach Mitch Spiers taught me how to look presentable, constantly challenged me and emphasized a lot about trusting my eyes. He created an overall environment very similar to how a College Baseball Program is Run. Team Cal Prepares you more than enough to face the Grind of College Baseball.

PLAYER: '17 TEAM CAL GRAD CLASS

Thank You to the Team California Organization and Mitch Spiers in helping both of my boys move on to the Next Level of Collegiate Baseball. Team California’s commitment to competitive Tournaments, Showcases and Personal Relationships with College Coaches and Recruiters gave both of my boys the opportunities to be seen by all of the colleges. Coach Spiers works with his players and teams so that they can reach their potential. Coach Spiers stresses the importance of grades, attitude, appearance and talent. Team California is a Family, and years after our boys playing has ended we still get together as parents to enjoy each others company. Thanks for a Great Experience!

PARENT: '15/'16 TEAM CAL GRAD CLASS

I just want to take this opportunity to Thank Mitch Spiers and the Team California Coaching Staff for all they do. Team California is a top notch program, well known and respected. Playing with Team California, my son not only met a group of fellow ball players, but friends for life.. Such a positive experience. Team California attends Great Events and All Players are given an opportunity! We couldn’t have asked for more. Your Mentorship, recruiting advice, direction and playing with Team California was instrumental in leading my son to have the opportunity to play at the next level. This process would not have happened without you. We still can’t thank you enough, my son now attends and plays at a College that is a good fit for him both Academically and Athletically. I think of Mitch and Team California every time my son takes the mound when he pitches in College.
